Links to Christian websites/blogs

I thought I would share a few web links I have found encouraging and helpful: UPLOOK is a wonderful Christian magazine. I have been encouraged in my walk with the Lord, by their scriptural articles.  You can download back issues of the magazine to your mobile device or computer. They have a magazine archive from 1998 all the way to 2013. Check it out!   http://www.uplook.org/archives.html Another blog:  http://goodwordsandworks.com/ It features book reviews on different books and also great posts on biblical truth. They have a nice list of links to other similar websites. http://digitalsojourner.com/ Thoughts on the Christian life as we sojourn together through the modern world http://whyweweb.com/ This website has lots of tips on technology and how we as Christians can use technology to share the gospel more effectively. http://ponsvir.blogspot.com/ This is another writing blog. It has posts on the tabernacle and other subjects in the Old Testament....

Vessels of Honor Conference -Part 1-

I went to my first Vessels of Honor Conference in May. I had heard about it for the last couple of years and was excited to be able to attend one! This year, a friend suggested I come to it (she was going too) and the Lord worked out transportation for me to get there. The conference was held at Park University's campus in Kansas City, Missouri and I really enjoyed the weekend of stimulating conversations, fellowship, hymn sings and inspiring Bible teaching.  You can listen to audio sessions from past VOH conferences on their website:  http://www.vesselsofhonor.org/Vessels_of_Honor/Downloads.html   I am planning (Lord willing) on doing a series of posts with my notes from some of the Bible teaching sessions.                                         - General Session - Discerning the Times by Jonathan Peck Friday May 23, 2014  Discernment is ...

Recipe: Turkish Delight Candy

I have wanted to try making Turkish Delight for a few weeks now, I just needed to find Rosewater. We went to a local Halal meat and grocery store and found Rosewater. So I had everything to make it. It takes about an hour to boil the candy, so if you make it, I suggest setting aside a few hours when the house is quiet and there is nothing else going on.  My Turkish word of the day is:  resmini çekmek: to photograph http://www.transparent.com/word-of-the-day/today/turkish.html                                                                            The Turkish Delight after setting overnight.      Make sure to dust your surface with powdered sugar, so it doesn't stick! (Note: I didn't put in the red food colo...

Quote

"It is much to be feared that the mysterious Person of the God-man does not occupy the thoughts and command the affections of the saints, as He should. There is far too much looseness and inaccuracy both in reference to His person and His work. Hence, the fearful prevalence of carnality and worldliness. Oh! Lord, revive thy work!" Pleasant Places, A Fragment on Psalm xvi p. 111 in "Things New and Old" Volume 1  By His Spirit He adorned the heavens; His hand pierced the fleeing serpent. Indeed these are the mere edges of His ways, and how small a whisper we hear of Him! But the thunder of His power who can understand? Our immutable God

Life is full of changes and nothing ever stays the same. I have never liked the idea of change, because the unknown has the potential to be frightening or unsettling. When I read God’s Word, He constantly reminds me that He  never  changes. He is always there for us, His children. It is a wonderful truth! I came across the word immutable in my Bible reading recently. Do you know what it means? I didn't. Here it is as defined in Webster's 1990 Dictionary: Immutable:  (adj.)  not capable of or susceptible to change.  "For when God made a promise to Abraham, because He could swear by no one greater, He swore by Himself, saying, “Surely blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply you.”    And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise.    For men indeed swear by the greater, and an oath for confirmation  is  for them an end of all dispute.  T hus God, determining to show more abunda...

The Well is Deep [Poem]

The Well is Deep              (John iv.)                  "The well is deep." Look back into the purposes of God, And scan Eternity. Trace to their source His wisdom and His power. Fathom, if thou canst, His everlasting mercy. Should thy brain Grow dizzy, and refuse to sound such depths, Confess thy feebleness, and meekly say-                       "The well is deep." "The well is deep."   Take for thy longest line The cords of vanity- the rope of sins Unnumbered. Choose then the heaviest weight; Take thee thine own poor hardened heart of stone: Now plumb the depths of God's unbounded love. They lead seems light- thy lengthened line run out- E'en with such instruments thou hast but plunged Beneath the surface of the tide.  Below, Far, far below, in depths unfat...
