True Love

Quiet. The only sound is a slight wind rustling the leaves, ever so gently.
Everything else is still.

No birds singing, no car engines, no clamor and hurry of the city.

Reflect. "Be still and know that I am God." I know why the Lord said that to us.... I know that I need quiet to be able to focus. Noise, bustle and adventure are all nice, but after a while, it grates on the nerves.

I continue to reflect on love, the topic at a recent Bible conference I attended. What is true love? How can I consistently love my family in simple, small ways? Cleaning a room, washing the dishes, cleaning the bathroom, reading a book to a younger sister, giving a piano lesson, talking in kindness, patiently listening, not leaving a job for "someone else" to do. The list could go on and on.

Really, it is all about my heart. If my heart is in tune with the Lord and has been conditioned after reading His word for the day, I will be happy to love. If I have neglected my Bible reading, neglected prayer or have unconfessed sin, then I will not be a nice person to live with.

If I truly love, I will be willing to sacrifice my time, my minutes, my hours, my days, for another person. Even when I don't feel like it. Even when I would prefer to do something for myself. Even when the person has been unloving to me. Then I remember that Jesus Christ died for me. He wants us to be channels of His love. Without Him, true love is never possible.

By this we know love, because He laid down His life for us. And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. But whoever has this world’s goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him? My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth. And by this we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before Him.
1 John 3:16-18

  • What are three different ways you show love?
  • Is it harder to love your family than to love friends?
  • How do you like to be loved? Do you desire words of affirmation or acts of service? Maybe you enjoy receiving gifts, quality time, or physical touch?http://www.5lovelanguages.com

Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! Therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know Him. Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.  And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.

The last days of 2015.

Verses I have been thinking of recently:

"You are worthy to take the scroll,
And to open its seals;
For You were slain,
And have redeemed us to God by Your blood
Out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation,
And have made us kings and priests to our God;
And we shall reign on the earth.”
Revelation 5:10

Then I turned to see the voice that spoke with me. And having turned I saw seven golden lampstands, and in the midst of the seven lampstands One like the Son of Man, clothed with a garment down to the feet and girded about the chest with a golden band. His head and hair were white like wool, as white as snow, and His eyes like a flame of fire; His feet were like fine brass, as if refined in a furnace, and His voice as the sound of many waters; He had in His right hand seven stars, out of His mouth went a sharp two-edged sword, and His countenance was like the sun shining in its strength. And when I saw Him, I fell at His feet as dead. But He laid His right hand on me, saying to me,“Do not be afraid; I am the First and the Last.  am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore. Amen. And I have the keys of Hades and of Death.
Revelation 1:12-18

...knowing this first: that scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts,  and saying, “Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation.” For this they willfully forget: that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of water and in the water, by which the world that then existed perished, being flooded with water.  But the heavens and the earth which are now preserved by the same word, are reserved for fire until the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.
The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.

2 Peter 3:3-7, 9

Thanksgiving 2015

We had an ice storm in early December. The trees were so beautiful with the ice on them.

A reminder to give thanks, painted by one of my sisters.

Thanksgiving Supper 2015. We had three international students over for the day. We enjoyed playing Scrabble, making sweet potato rolls, talking and laughing with them.

Thanks for stopping by!  What did you do for Thanksgiving?
