Photos from England

My dad and I went along with a tour group from the US to learn more about the history of Operation Tiger. We got to meet two American veterans who also came to England.

I learned the history of Operation Tiger which I had not been aware of before. This year is the 70th Anniversary of Operation Tiger. They had a big ceremony at Slapton Sands near a tank that was recovered after the war.

Exercise Tiger, or Operation Tiger, was the code name for one in a series of large-scale rehearsals for the D-Day invasion of Normandy, which took place on Slapton Sands or Slapton Beach in Devon. (In late 1943) Coordination and communication problems resulted in friendly fire deaths during the exercise, and an Allied convoy positioning itself for the landing was attacked by E-boats of the German Kriegsmarine, resulting in the deaths of 946 American servicemen.[1][2][3] The incident was under the strictest secrecy at the time due to the impending invasion, and was only nominally reported afterward; as a result it has been called "forgotten".

A friendly man we met in Hope's Cove in Devon, England.

Part of the tour group. My dad is showing some of the other people some copies of letters by from WW2 and pictures of Eisenhower he had brought.

             Hope's Cove.

We had a nice walk down this path. The sea water below was so bright blue, it was beautiful!

A nearby flock of sheep.

This is a tree lining a narrow, winding Devonshire road.

Stopping to visit with some good friends. :)

I really liked the pink color of this tulip!

                                       St. Mary Church, Exeter.

Having a yummy tea. Scones with strawberry jam and clotted cream.

Meeting a Christian couple who mentored my mum when she was in college. It was very encouraging to visit with them.

      My room at Grandma's house.

Grandma and I went grocery shopping and when we got back, we had tea and "angel cakes" with pink icing.

Anyone know what "Summer Fruits squash" is?  This is a fruit juice flavored concentrate, and you add it to water. For some reason, it is called fruit squash.

Look at that British patriotism! Even the strawberry containers have British flags on them. :)

Driving towards the village of Newton Abbot.

Whenever I visit cemeteries, it makes me think of the people who once lived, whose names and dates of birth and death I can read. It definitely makes a person think soberly. It is important to think about where you will go after you die. Are you sure of your eternal destiny? By God's wonderful grace and mercy, I know that I will be in Heaven after I die. It is not because of any works I have done, but by Jesus Christ suffering, taking my sins upon Himself and dying a terrible death. He paid the debt I could not pay.

You can know. If you repent of your sins and ask Jesus Christ to forgive you and become your Savior He will do it!  "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." 1 John 1:9

Do not put off what you can do today. Please accept God's free gift of salvation. You never know how much longer you will be on this earth.

"But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name." John 20:31

"For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him.  For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life." Romans 5:6-10

“All flesh is as grass,
And all the glory of man as the flower of the grass.
The grass withers,
And its flower falls away,
25 But the word of the Lord endures forever.”

1 Peter 1:24-25

The Best [poem]

Christ wants the best. He in the far-off ages Once claimed the firstling of the flock, the                 finest of the wheat, And still He asks His own with with gentlest pleading To lay their highest hopes and and brightest                  talents at His feet. He'll not forget the feeblest service,                humblest love; He only asks that of our store we give to Him                The best we have. Christ gives the best. He takes the hearts we offer; And fills them with His glorious beauty,                joy and peace; And in His service as we're growing stronger, The calls to great achievements still increase. The richest gifts for us on earth, or in                 the heavens above, Are hid in Christ. In Jesus we receive                  The best we have. And is our best too much? O friend, let us                 remember  How once our Lord poured out His soul for us, And in the prime of Hi
